Are there 2 sets of rules in college football?...

Life often teaches us lessons...from the time we are 

born till we die, we try and learn and observe.

One lesson we are taught is rules are rules!

There are not two set of rules for society.

You know what, that would be great...if it were true!

Because you and I know that it's not!

College football for example, some schools are colleges!

They educate, nurture and develop young people for life 

and at the end of the day they win football games!

THEN!...There are the others, the ones that take 

ANYONE regardless of:

Record

 (criminal)

Academics 

(can they read?)

Character 

(That's my mama's weed! or Juco)

For years ND has played by the rules, we dodge 

NO ONE...you line 'em up...we'll play 'em!

But now there seems to be 2 sets of rules again?

Schedule

(some schedule CUPCAKES and non BCS teams)

Some don't play in cold weather...EVER!

(reptiles like Gators never leave the sun! or condoms 

don't like cold!)

Degree?

(Some have a lower graduation rate than flipping 

a coin and guessing the side!)

BUT one rule that ALWAYS seemed to apply 

UNTIL THIS SEASON!

DEFENSE WINS
CHAMPIONSHIPS!

But Not Anymore!

Seems ALL OF A SUDDEN

that rule is different?

Huh?... Peculiar?

See now that ND has the best 

Defense in the country...

And has played a tougher schedule than 

any of the top 3 teams...

And is UNBEATEN...now we 

want a:

A circus act with a bunch of ducks?

Come on!...

Notre Dame has allowed 111 Points in 

10 GAMES!

Oregon allowed over 80 points in 2 GAMES!

I understand the HATE!...I understand the JEALOUSY,

but don't change the complexity of the 

ENTIRE game cause you thought ND would be 

7-3 right now!

Bottom line is we did everything right!

2 sets of rules?

Bama was allowed to come out flat vs Tex A&M 

because they were coming off an "emotional" game vs 

LSU?

But ND wasn't allowed, coming off of being one of only

5 teams IN FOURTEEN YEARS to beat
Oklahoma at home...we weren't allowed to let 

Pitt take us to OT?

Ohio State is allowed to let INDIANA to hang 50

on them?...Yeah we are talking football not basketball...

But ND holding Boston College to 6 and controlling 

the ENTIRE game is "struggling".

The SEC and Big 10 and Pac and Big 12 

are ALL allowed to schedule complete

JOKE games vs EVERY directional school that

exists and D1AA teams!

But ND is criticized for playing Navy every year 

which was agreed upon during WWII for thanks

for helping ND STAY IN BUSINESS!

I don't care WHO we play!

THEY BOTH HAVE HUGE HOLES!

K STATE?

Please....Notre Dame would ROLL the fighting...Whatever 

the hell they are?..what Cougars?...Panthers?...Calicos?...

It's gonna take more than a big QB who likes to run to beat 

the IRISH D!

OREGON?

The TOP ranked D's they've played?

Fresno State (37th) who scored 25 on them!

 and

 USC (40th) who hung over 50 on them!

So what are they gonna do vs one 

of the top 2 defenses in the country?

You wanna know how to beat the ducks?

Keep them out of rhythm and they can't score!

You bring in the top Defense in the country!

And one of the top Offenses in the country in 

time of possession...AND leads the country in 

drives over 6 minutes!

A defense that is 98th vs the pass and 63rd on the run!

Then we got USC!

And that hating has ALREADY started!

Barkley....Woods...etc...

"The Notre Dame secondary is young!...it will get

Just like Oklahoma?

Notre Dame ranks SECOND nationwide in yards 

per completion vs the pass!

NO BIG PLAYS!

So guess what happens if the ducks get de-feathered this 

weekend vs Stanford!.....ALL HELL BREAKS LOSE!

Cause they got NO CHOICE BUT TO PUT US NUBMER 2!

We beat USC...and it's ON vs K STATE!

THE SEC DOES!

Well...that was ugly!...On to BC!

There is "ugly" then there is "UGLY". 

What happend last week was both!

Some parts were just "ugly" some parts were down right

  hard to wach and more embarrassing to witness!

Tell me how you can, for 3 quarters, just ZOMBIE your way 

through a game...then realize

 "Oh Sh#t..we are gonna lose this thing!" 

1st 3 Quarters the ND defense=7.4 yards per play

4th quarter and ALL 3 OTs combined= .9 yards per play

We outplayed Pitt 522 yards to their 308!

Pitt was 1 of 14 on 3rd down!

In the 4th quarter and overtime ND ran 43 plays for 233 yards!

Pitt in the 4th quarter and overtime?....23 plays for 21 yards!

We looked like Ohio State vs Purdue out there!

UGLY!

What the hell was going on?....I'll tell ya what!

Good old fashion over looking someone and too many 

challenges in a row!....Too many night games!...too much media!...

Too many people kissing our ass...and too much of a CIRCUS!

We thought...We are ND...we got this!...easy!

EVERETT GOLSON

Don't look now fellas...but we got ourselves a 

QUARTERBACK

And a QB that is hard to get a hand on...

Scrambles for yardage..

Has a ROCKET for an arm...

And in a crunch not only took control of the 

team...but put the team on his back and said..

"Relax...I got this!"

And we saw just a small tidbit of the 

SONIC offense I've heard so much about!

Sonic is ND's version of the "Quack Attack"

Run a play every 18 seconds!

NO huddle...hard to stop...NO adjustments

NO substitutions!

At the end of the day...we've hit the goals I had laid out for 

this team at the beginning of the year!

I saw a minimum of 9 wins!

Why?

With 3 converted offensive players playing in the D secondary.

With a red shirt freshman playing QB.

Injuries across the board to starters and backups!

We've exceeded expectations...so what's next?...

So what have we learned?

This game is about style!

It's about putting up points!

It's about Sportscenter Highlights!

Even style can have it's pit falls!

You approach this game without your usual hype...you will 

get beat!

Am I worried?...I'm ALWAYS worried, but this 

team is clear eyed and ready for what the next step is 

in front of them!

Take Pitt seriously...but stretch your legs a bit!

Get some reps in for the youth!

Take some shots!

But realize you have to FIGHT!

You have to punch and punch until you can't 

punch anymore!

This season is a marathon not a sprint!

EVERY WEEK is another chance at someone

You know I had a mentor years ago that asked a 

friend of mine how he felt his year was going in 

comparison to other brokers...his reply?..."About average."

One of my favorite things about growing up a Notre Dame 

fan is they do NOTHING average!

They excel in EVERYTHING...so what are we going 

to remember about this season, when the dust clears 

will it be "special" or "average"

You've won some great games...and fought through some 

amazing hurdles when you consider:

Injuries

Frosh QB

Leading Rusher Suspended

Dealing with International Travel

Playing and beating 3 ranked teams!

And at the end of the day...you're still not getting the respect you 

deserve!....and you won't...not halfway down this road!

So in come the 

Stormin Mormons of BYU!

So what are we facing?

On paper BYU looks pretty good on 

Offense:

Averaging 223 yards passing a game

177 yards rushing a game

Averaging 30 points a game!

But against teams that are awake?

L-to Utah

L-to Boise

L-to Oregon State

Oh...by the way they have lost EVERY road 

game they have played this season!

BUT!....and hear me out on this...they are 5th in 

total Defense!...so any given Saturday you can be beat!

So what do we need to figure out?

A LOT!

I STILL DON'T KNOW WHO WE ARE
AS AN OFFENSE!

Now this is in no way questioning the coaching!

But these are questions I need answers to!

Let's review the checklist!

1.Cierre Wood

Why is this kid not touching the ball 25 times a game?

He's averaging over 6 yards per carry and our 2nd best RB is 

averaging less than 4!...so when are we gonna take 

Wood out of the doghouse?

2. QUARTERBACK

When are we going to let Everett be Everett?

Everette seems more comfortable rolling out of the pocket,

does damage with his legs...and arm...
NEEDS TO LEARN TO GET OUT OF BOUNDS!

You can beat who we've beat so far with this rotation...but 

you're not beating OU or USC with this type of play!...

3. Special Teams

Kyle Brinzda has been BALLING!

Can't complain!

Kickoff?...I'll give you a mulligan for returns...the 

new rules have handcuffed returners....

But PUNT?

Who in the world is coaching 

punt teams?... Neal is eye to eye with the other team 

almost EVERY time he catches the ball...give this 

kid a chance to pull a rabbit out of his hat!

BLOCK!!..I know you have heard this before!

So...you wanna know why the talking heads have ammo to 

disrespect us?...we have too many issues!

 BYU...WAKE...Boston College..PITT...

These games give us a chance to work out some 

problems and see what sticks...but OU and USC!...no

This is our year...this is a year to make a statement, 

GET USED TO IT college football...Brian 
Kelly is building a WRECKING CREW!

And it's only going to get better..year after year!

Now some recruiting news!

We have a top 5 recruiting class...and it's not about 

just taking what talent we can find..it's about filling holes!

Kelly has proven he's one of the BEST recruiters in the 

country...but NOTHING recruits like WINNING!

With that being said....there are rumors that 

a kid in our class is flipping and flopping like a fish outta 

water...the writing is on the wall...so be ready!

But we have a HUGE silent waiting in the wings!

January is full of chances to commit on TV...it doesn't mean 

certain kids haven't popped and are holding off to announce 

on the grand stage!

So relax...stay calm....we are turning away kids that want to 

commit...so we can land the BIG FISH!

I've recently moved from out of state into a new home and

would like to share with you an experience I've never 

had before.  I'm 71 years old and have followed the IRISH

since I was little listening on the radio to Mr. Nelson say

"Back to further action!"  I've met all my neighbors and 

have not had any issues until this year. We've 

never really talked football before but one day getting the

mail the topic came up.  My neighbor asked me who I rooted 

for being from out of state, and I said "I love Notre Dame!" 

He replied "I HATE ND" I couldn't understand why a good 

clean Catholic University would upset him so much, so I asked

why?  He replied "Because they recruited Rocket Ismail he 

doesn't' have an Irish name!"  So I nervously laughed off his 

response and began up my drive way and simply said...

"Good luck in your bowl game!"

This is my neighbors yard!

Why did my bowl game comment make him 

even more upset?
